About Zack

Zack Traylor is the founder and owner of Traylor Bros Deck and Patio Pros, a specialized outdoor living company serving Murray, Calloway County, and the wider Western Kentucky region.

With 18 years of combined industry experience, Zack made a deliberate decision early in his career: instead of becoming another general contractor juggling roofing, siding, and remodels, he would commit to one thing and do it better than anyone else in the area.
That decision is what every article on this site is built on.

Zack runs the consultation. Zack draws the 3D model. Zack walks the job site. When a homeowner in Paducah, Murray, or Land Between the Lakes hires Traylor Bros, they are working directly with the owner, not handed off to a salesperson who will never see the build again.

Why He Started Traylor Bros

He started Traylor Bros with the long view in mind, hoping that one day his boys would step into the business he built. Every structural decision, every material spec, every walkthrough is filtered through one question:

Would I want my own kids running this build twenty years from now?

That standard pushed Zack away from the “chuck-in-a-truck” reputation that plagues parts of rural Kentucky’s construction industry. Instead, he built his company around four non-negotiables:

  • Honest pricing with no bait-and-switch numbers
  • Premium materials from Trex, TimberTech by Azek, Deckorators, and YellaWood
  • A 2-year craftsmanship warranty on every build
  • The Kentucky 1-year labor warranty that the state requires, met without exception

Because the wrong board on the wrong joist becomes the homeowner’s problem five years later, not the builder’s

Credentials and Affiliations

Zack runs Traylor Bros as a design-build operation, which means the same person who draws the model is the one who signs off on the framing. The work is backed by:

Manufacturer relationships with Trex Pro, TimberTech by Azek, and Deckorators

Local lumber partnerships with Murray Lumber and Cole Lumber, sourced for every project

A 2-year craftsmanship warranty on top of Kentucky’s required 1-year labor warranty

Project value range of $50K to $100K+, with custom builds engineered for the region’s humidity and freeze-thaw cycles

NADRA membership, and Trex Pro authorization, both requiring continuing education in current code and material standards

A builder who doesn’t know the local supply chain will surprise the homeowner with delays. Zack made sure that wouldn’t be him.

What You'll Read From Him

Zack writes the way he runs job sites: clear, direct, and grounded in what works in this specific region. He doesn’t write to impress other builders. He writes to give Calloway County homeowners straight answers.

Expect posts on:

  • Material selection for the humidity, freeze-thaw cycles, and pest pressure of Western Kentucky.
  • Composite vs. wood decking decisions, including when YellaWood is the smarter call than a synthetic board.
  • Multi-level deck planning for the sloped lots common around Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake.
  • Pool and spa deck construction with the load and drainage considerations that homeowners rarely hear about.
  • Permitting, HOA coordination, and inspection processes in Calloway, McCracken, Marshall, Graves, and Trigg counties.
  • Pergolas, covered patios, and screened porches built to handle Kentucky storms
  • The honest cost of a custom deck in 2026, broken down line by line.

If Zack writes about it, it is because a homeowner asked him during a recent consultation.

Zack's Building Philosophy

Zack writes the way he runs job sites: clear, direct, and grounded in what works in this specific region. He doesn’t write to impress other builders. He writes to give Calloway County homeowners straight answers.

“I build every deck the way I would build one for my own house. The materials I won’t put on my own home are materials I won’t put on yours.”

That sentence sums up the approach:

  • No upselling on products, Zack doesn’t believe in
  • No volume targets that push the crews to cut corners
  • A six-week construction window, the team protects with weekly walkthroughs

Zack calls it a “working relationship,” not a project. A custom build can run several months from first consultation to final board, and he thinks the homeowner should enjoy that part of the process, not dread it.

Outside the Job Site

The same community that has fed Traylor Bros through word-of-mouth referrals for three years straight is the community Zack’s sons are growing up in. He supports local athletic programs across Calloway County and contributes to the local parks system. He treats that as a responsibility, not a marketing angle.

The decks and porches on this site weren’t pulled from a stock photo library. Every one of them was drawn, framed, and finished by Zack and his crew across Calloway County and the lakes region. The projects page is where the writing meets the wood.

Let's Sit Down and Talk About Your Backyard

Most of Zack’s best builds started the same way: a homeowner standing in their yard, pointing at the spot, telling him what their evenings should look like.

That’s where he likes to start. No price sheet. No hard sell. Just a walk through your space and an honest plan you can take your time with. If financing makes the timing easier, he’ll walk you through that too.
